Intergenerational Learning & Mashiki Town Regeneration Project — Donation of Complex Facility: YP Future House (Miraie)
The Project: Origin and Background-Following the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, Mashiki Town has continuously driven local revitalization efforts. Beyond restoring the living environment during the reconstruction process, social challenges such as student school refusal (truancy) and elderly isolation gradually emerged.
To provide children with a safe place to learn and interact, while simultaneously offering seniors opportunities to engage with the community and build interpersonal connections, this facility was established around the core principles of "Learning Support" and "Intergenerational Exchange." Through interaction and companionship across different generations, we aim to create a shared community space where residents can connect and grow together.
Additionally, the facility utilizes a novel ultra-lightweight, thin, and fire-resistant building material to reduce the risk of ceiling collapse and enhance overall safety. The materials are also recyclable, actively practicing the principles of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
The Results: The facility is officially open and serves as a vital hub where school-refusal students can learn and socialize with peace of mind.
Through learning support, interactive activities, and community participation programs, the center fosters engagement among students, seniors, and local residents—gradually building a cross-generational, mutually supportive community network. It also provides diverse opportunities for civic engagement, boosting resident interaction and cohesion. The facility is expected to serve and facilitate interactions for approximately 6,000 visitors annually.
The Results: Moving forward, we will continue to deepen learning support and intergenerational exchange activities while strengthening partnerships with schools, social welfare institutions, and local organizations to expand our service scope and audience. By building a more comprehensive support network, we aim to maintain a trusted community space where children, seniors, and residents can comfortably participate, accompany one another, and grow together—contributing continuously to the regional revitalization and sustainable development of Mashiki Town.
