Expanding Pediatric Intensive Care (Cambodia)

  • 3 min read

The Project: In partnership with Angkor Hospital for Children, YP Foundation is helping to increase patient access to pediatric oncology services, improving hospital facilities, and introducing programs that support emotional well-being. At the same time, investments in training and rural healthcare—particularly in neonatal care—are building long-term capacity and extending impact beyond the hospital.

The Story: In Cambodia, too many children still face life-threatening conditions without access to the care they need. For families traveling long distances—often with limited resources—the journey is not only medical, but emotional and financial. Through its partnership with Angkor Hospital for Children, the YP Foundation is helping to change that reality—supporting children not just to survive, but to heal with dignity, comfort, and hope. Together, these efforts are creating a more resilient, compassionate healthcare system for children across Cambodia.

We are excited to share the 2025 and current 2026 highlights that reflect the impact of this ongoing support.

The Results:

Expanding Pediatric Cancer Care in Cambodia

Through the ongoing support of the YP Foundation, Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) is expanding access to life-saving cancer treatment and compassionate care for children across Cambodia. In the latter half of 2025, AHC diagnosed 26 children with cancer, delivered over 1,700 chemotherapy treatments, and cared for patients from 17 provinces—highlighting both the urgent need and the hospital’s growing national reach.

This work goes far beyond clinical care. With YP Foundation’s continued partnership, AHC supports children and their families throughout their treatment journey—providing safe accommodation near the hospital, nutritious daily meals, and emotional support through initiatives like a mobile library, music therapy, and community activities that bring comfort and connection during difficult times.

Together, this ongoing partnership is helping ensure that children in Cambodia not only have a better chance of surviving cancer, but receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve.

YP Foundation–Supported Initiative: Mini Mobile Library

A YP Foundation supported mini mobile library was launched in late 2025 at AHC.  This help bring learning, play, and connection into the hospital environment. Moving through wards each weekday, the library provides books, games, and educational materials for children, along with practical resources for caregivers.

Reaching around 250 patients and families daily, the initiative creates moments of calm, normalcy, and shared interaction—helping children feel more at ease during treatment while supporting their emotional well-being and development.

YP Foundation–Supported Initiative: Roof Renovation for Patient Safety

Key facility upgrades to improve safety and comfort for patients and families were completed in 2025. Renovations included new roofing, upgraded lighting and electrical systems, and improved waterproofing across waiting areas and clinical spaces.

These improvements provide a cleaner, safer environment for hundreds of patients, caregivers, and staff each day, while also offering a welcoming space where families—especially those without lodging—can rest and support one another during treatment.

YP Foundation–Supported Initiative: Improving Neonatal Care in Rural Communities

With the generous support of the YP Foundation, AHC is strengthening neonatal care in rural Cambodia through its Saving Babies’ Lives program. Essential equipment, facility upgrades, and the creation of a new neonatal unit have significantly improved care at Angkor Chum Referral Hospital and surrounding health centers.

In addition, local healthcare workers received hands-on training and ongoing mentorship, building long-term capacity to safely manage newborn complications.

This initiative is expected to benefit around 700 mothers and newborns each year—helping ensure safer births and giving more babies a healthy start to life.
