VOA-GNY - Operation Backpack 2026

Project Details: Operation Backpack is a back-to-school initiative of Volunteers of America-Greater New York that helps children and families experiencing financial hardship prepare for the new school year.

Each year, a variety of backpacks are filled with brand new age-appropriate school supplies and distributed to children through VOA-GNY programs and community partners. The program helps relieve the financial burden of back-to-school expenses while giving children the basic tools they need to participate fully in school.

Beyond the supplies themselves, Operation Backpack is about helping children start the school year feeling prepared, confident, and included, rather than disadvantaged because their families cannot afford school supplies.

This is the third year in a row that YP Foundation has supported this initiative and members have helped to pack backpacks.
